Current Literacy Outcomes for Children who Received Hearing Devices Under 12 Months of Age
SCIC would like to invite your child to participate in a research study looking to better understand literacy outcomes of children who were implanted with a hearing device before 24 months of age. This project is being run by Dr Shani Dettman, an experienced speech pathologist and senior lecturer at the University of Melbourne
Who can participate ?
children/adolescents aged 11—18 yrs old
who received a cochlear implant before 24 months of age
What is involved?
Your child will be asked to complete 3 tests looking at their range of reading, memory, phonological awareness and language skills.
Testing will take approximately 2 hours (including time for breaks).
The test can be performed according to your preference:
At home, at an SCIC clinic or at your child’s school.
You will be reimbursed for any reasonable travel and parking expenses associated with the research project visit.
- Cochlear implant users aged between 11 and 18 years old who were implanted prior to turning 1 year old.
